Judy Garland
Judy Garland was an American Actress and singer. She has been in very many featured movies but overall had a very stressful life. She was mostly known for playing Dorothy in the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz". She lived 1922-1969.
Judy Garland's childhood was often a tough one. She and her sisters, Mary Jane and Dorothy, had a show called "The Gumm Sisters", which got often made fun of as people would sometimes call it "The Glum Sisters". Garland's first appearance on the show was when she was just 2 years old and repeatingly sang "Jingle Bells" until she was dragged of the stage kicking and screaming. The crowd also made fun of her name, Frances Ethel Gumm, which made her mother change her name to Judy Graland.

She had performed in many hotels, clubs, stages, and screens singing and acting. But her life ended up being quite short, and died at age 47 of an overdose.
Education
Garland went to Lawler's Professional School for elementary school in Los Angeles, California. She was taught there 1929-1931. 4 years after that, she signed the contract with MGM. She went to high school at Hollywood High School, and then went to University High School in Los Angeles. While she was in high school, she was featured in "The Wizard of Oz". She ended up never going to college.
Major Life Events
After Garland played Dorothy in "The Wizard Of Oz", later she became instantly recognized. The film became a huge hit and became very successful. Later in life, she had a couple of her own shows like "The Judy Garland Show" and "Judy at Carnegie Hall" that gave her many red carpet awards. By 1951 to the time of her death, she recorded close to 100 single records. Her show with her sisters called "The Gumm Sisters" was successful until people started prefering them to "The Glum Sisters" because of the laughs the sister gave to the crowd. This caused Fraces Ethel Gumm's name changed to Judy Garland.

Judy Garland was born Frances Ethel Gumm on June 10, 1922 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and moved to California when she was almost 4. Garland was a singer 1924-1969 and an actress 1929-1967. She had her first child, Liza Minnelli at age 24 in 1946, second child Lorna Luft at age 30 in 1952, and her last child Joey Luft at age 33 in 1955. Liza Minnelli and Lorna Luft both became LA actresses. Judy Garland died on June 22, 1969 in Chelsea, Lomdon, England, United Kingdom of Barbituate Overdose at age 47.
Family
Garland's family life wasn't too good of one. Both of her parents died around the time she lived; her dad, Frances Avent Gumm, died when Garland was only 13 which left her devistated. Her mother, Ethel Marion Milne, died when Garland was 31. The oldest Gumm sister, Mary Jane, commit suicide in 1964. Garland had troubles with marriges as she had gotten divorced 4 times and married 5; David Rose, Vincente Minnelli, Sidney Luft, Mark Herron, and Mickey Deans, who found her dead in their London home. She has a niece, Judaline Gumm, who is 78, and two grandchildren, Vanessa Hooker age 26 and Jesse Hokker age 32. She has 3 children.
Minnesota life
Judy Garland dosn't have too many big connections to Minnesota since her life was mostly in California, but she was born in Minnesota and had their Gumm Sisters show was held their for a bit. When she was 3 1/2, they had to move to los Angeles, California. Her sisters were also born in Grand Rapids. When Garland was an adult, she was asked on what she thinks about Minnesota and said that Grand Rapids was a "beautiful town in Northern Minnesota surrounded by lakes" but never got the chance to ever visit Minnesota. Today, ever year in June there is a festival in Minnesota for her that started since 1939.
Achivements
Judy has won many red carpet awards including 6 Hall of Fame awards, 2 Grammy awards, and won the Academy Juvenile award from her performance on "The Wizard of Oz" when she was 18. She had great luck when auditioning for "The Wizard of Oz as there was a girl named Shirley Temple that had big chances of being Dorothy and had great acting, but the crew chose Galrland instead because she had a stronger singing voice. She also won 2 Golden Globes and one from another one of her most successful movies "A Star is Born". When her and her sisters had the Gumm Sisters show, Garland was shy and unpopular and her sisters were getting fame. Instead, Garland turned out to be the youngest but most successful out of the 3 sisters.

People today remember Judy Garland for being 94 years old if she was still alive. She captured the hearts of many when she sang and how she might have been a small woman but had a big voice. She been the lead role in many movies that had been successful. And not knowing that this would happen, today poeple still watch "The Wizard of Oz" although it was published 78 years ago. She would have never known that "The Wizard of Oz" would be one of the most successful and well known movies of all time.
